2018 has been yet another phenomenal year for albums and mixtapes for reggae and dancehall, with some of the biggest artists releasing albums, with releases from Agent Sasco, Spice, Konshens, Popcaan, Ziggy Marley and Nesbeth, it was always going to be a hard decision to pick one album for Album Of The Year.
Our pick for 2018’s Album Of The Year is ‘Forever’ by Popcaan
‘Forever’ saw Popcaan release his second album, teaming up with Brooklyn based Mixpak and Dre Skull for their second album together, following on from 2018’s ‘Where We Come From’. Once again Mixpak and Popcaan collaborated perfectly, releasing an album that fuses a lot of different elements and influences.
‘Forever’ was a phenomenal album from Popcaan, once again showing his ability to cater for a wide range of musical tastes, with ‘Forever’ clearly showing Popcaan’s international marketability on tracks like ‘Dun Rich’ with Davido, ‘Through The Storm’ and ‘Body So Good’. Popcaan once again proved that he has the potential to grow even further internationally, as well as proving his incredible talent for producing dancehall that sticks closely to its roots.
